Jayee's Column

I was suggested to do this question..

Dear Jayee,
My grades have been outstanding and I havn't been in trouble in ANY class. I've been told that multiple times it's a good thing, but sometimes I wonder why. Can you explain this to me?
Sincerely,
   Goodie G.

Dear Goddie G.,
Having good behavior in class is something most students need. See what happens is that your grades and behavior gets tracked on something called YOUR PERMANENT RECORD! This record follows you to high school and college and can become a nightmare if something tragic comes at the WRONG time. See, most people dont know that sometimes many people say something to help, or at least try to. So when an adult says " Try your best " or " Im going to get more help for you," its NOT to get on your nerves, its to make sure you have a HIGHER expectations of yourself, although it may seem like it though. The adults in your life want to see you in the future with a good job and a great education. They try their best to make sure that happens. So next time an adult redirects you, go along with it and see what comes out of it!

What Thankgiving Means

Thankgiving is about the  native americans  and the colonists coming together to get to now each other.Thats what it really means it  was hard for the colonists to get along and work to invite the native americans  people. In the early days ihe colonists where just using things they hade and the native americans  didn't really have enything so they were getting  ready to have there dinner and they saw there was nothing they had. They got sad and  new they should help them because they helped them with war.So now they let them into there homes and hade a wonderful Thanksgiving.

STAR TEACHER!!!

Many students have their FAVORITE teacher that they want to show appreciation to. There will be a mixture of 6th, 7th, AND 8th grade teachers that get their appreciation shown in the newspaper now! Our first teacher so happens to be Ms. Coleman with the 8th graders! Ms. Coleman is the teacher most of her students count on for help. She has been working here at Arrowhead for 10 YEARS!! She has a Masters Degree in education and she had family members involved in the integration process. I interviewed her to find out what she's REALLY like...

Me: What is your FAVORITE thing about the students?
Ms. Coleman: I think I really like the creativity and diversity of the students in their desire to expand their experiences through different activities.

Me: Whats your favorite thing about Arrowhead?
Ms. Coleman: It's like a family here. We're different than most schools, the staff helps each other, and it seems as if the students know that the staff cares about them ( no matter the situation )

Me: How has Arrowhead helped you?
Ms. Coleman: Arrowhead has provided many opprotunities to grow as a teacher and to TRY different things.

Me: We are reading the book about integration in FAS..how do you feel about the book?
Ms. Coleman: Well as I've already stated, I've had family apart of the integration process so it's really interesting to hear about how it ALL went down. I LOVE IT!

Thanksgiving - By Ted

Here I am again, writing about a holiday. This time my article is about Thanksgiving - that special day where we get to eat  a week's worth of food in one meal. But it's not just about stuffing yourself, it's also about seeing your family. Most of us go to a relative's house to celebrate. Stereotypically, I go to my Grandma's house on Thanksgiving, where I see that whole side of my family and eat a big meal. Then, the next day, I go to my other Grandma's house, see the other half of my family, and eat another big meal. The next day I let myself recover by sitting in bed all day.
Here at school, there are two fun things happening because of Thanksgiving. The first thing is making a turkey in art class, and the second is Thanksgiving Break. I love Thanksgiving Break because we get three whole days off of school (five if you count the weekend). On Halloween we only got one day off, so this break is three times as long. More time to do stuff.
So, Thanksgiving is a great time to eat a ton of home-cooked food (turkey, mashed potatoes, pie, cranberry sauce, etc.), be around family (is that good or bad?) and relax on Thanksgiving Break. Do you have any special things you do on Thanksgiving or family traditions? Hopefully the holiday is fun for everyone and no one is hospitalized in an extreme food coma.

Essays - By Ted

It seems like lately we have been buried in essays. English essays, Social Studies essays, Science essays. Hopefully math wont start assigning them (What would a math essay be like? Just writing down pages of math equations? I think I would die of boredom trying to write that). Teachers think that writing paragraphs is a great way to put info in our heads, unfortunately. If you aren't good at writing, I have some tips to make it easier.
  • If you know you have to write an essay for homework, take notes in class (I know you're thinking, only a huge nerd would do that. If you want to make the essay super easy, then suck it up and be a nerd. It isn't that bad.) Then you can just use your notes to put together sentences. Magic! Instant essay.
  • Type your essay. For some reason teachers love that. Your teacher might even give extra credit just for having it typed (cough cough Mrs. Isabell)
  • If you can't think of words to use, use a thesaurus. Thankfully, there is a built in thesaurus on Microsoft Word. Just type a word, highlight it, right click, and click synonyms. Using better words will make your essay better.
  •  Stay after school and have your teacher help you write. They know how to make your essay good.
  • If you just want to get your essay over with, write down the most important information and see if that will be enough. Slacker.
So, if you ever feel like you are drowning in essays and can't escape, use these tips. They should work, but I'm not responsible if they don't work and you get a bad grade. Lets wish for the best.

Jayee's Column

This week, more questions have been entered...
Dear Jayee,
Why dont we have a spanish word of the day?
Sincerely,
   Noel

Dear Noel,
To answer your question, I think you should talk to Mrs. Hale or any other teacher for that matter and see what they say or do. Bringing that up would really spark someones mind that someone really wants to learn more about another culture. If you already know some but you want to learn more, that would be a great way to expand the vocabulary that you already know. Just try and dont be afraid of the outcome, because you never know unless you try!!
Sincerely,
   Jayee

Dear Jayee,
You are like my bestfriend and you seem REAL cool, only thing is i dont know as much about you like i should OR could..So my question to you is, whats your favorite color?
Sincerely,
   Timmie

Dear Timmie,
You are like my bestfriend and its sad you dont know my favorite color(s) even though Ive told you more than once but my favorite color(s) are (in  this order): Purple, Red, and Black.
 Sincerely,
 Jayee

Dear Jayee,
I cant stand waking up SO early on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thurdays, AND Fridays...Why do we have to wake up so early JUST to go to school?
Sincerely,
  Aaron

Dear Aaron,
I dont like waking up so early either BUT its WAY better than waiting until the day is over to go to school. Now is around the time you need at the most 8 hours of sleep. Going to bed at night is something most teens hate doing, but its something that needs to be done. Yeah, yeah your thinkin, " YEAH RIGHT! " or " POINT BRO! " but its true. Me personally, I cant stand procrastinaion so I would rather wake up in the mornings then wake up at night..Like I said, thats just me though
Sincerely,
  Jayee

Dear Jayee,
Why do we get so much homework in a week?
Sincerely,
 Kayla

Dear Kayla,
We have so much homework because our teachers "love" us. Its something I call "tough love" though. It may not seem like it but they do. They know when somethings not right and they try their best to make sure you dont put yourself or anyone else in trouble. They give us the homework to prepare us for the future though. I bet you plan on being famous or very successful and whatever that may be, you have to have an education. Its only the best for you..
Sincerely,
 Jayee

Dear Jayee,
I know you listen to music, I mean who doesnt, but in your opinion..is 'Lil Wayne' the best rapper?
Sincerely,
Timothy

Dear Timothy,
Of course I listen to music and of course I think 'Lil Wayne' is the best rapper! He does what he has to do to make it in life. He's a hard worker, a wonderful father and a great son. For him to be at where he's at now from where he came from...thats something that most people really wouldnt think about. Think about that next time you listen to a song of his.
Sincerely,
 Jayee
